The challenge
Birmingham is a city with a clear focus on the future.

Already Europe's youngest major city, and the most diverse in the UK outside London, we want nothing less than to be the best in the UK.

We'll achieve this by driving improvement and modernisation across the council and transforming the way we operate and deliver services.

From utilising new technology to organising services around our citizens, we're reducing cost while improving outcomes.

Right now we're looking for a bold and ambitious Head of SEND Assessment, Review and Customer Care to join our new and expanding senior management team in the Children and Families Directorate.

There is no bigger or more exciting place to be right now, and we have a lot of work to do.

We're building something very special for the children and families of Birmingham, a city where our vision is one where all children and young people thrive.

If you're looking for your next challenge and have the passion to secure the very best opportunities for children and young people, you won't find a better place to work.

The opportunity

Join us in this vital role and you'll lead a compassionate and dedicated team who are determined to get it right for children and families.

Managing and improving the services we provide, and using your vision to develop an imaginative business plan that reflects the aspirations of everyone we work with, you'll build partnerships with schools, agencies and the voluntary and community sectors to improve and enhance outcomes for the children of our city.

But your work won't stop here - you'll also make decisions on provision and placements, oversee the collection of assessment information, advise on complex tribunal cases, and use your expertise and knowledge to provide advice across our organisation on approaches relating to SEND.

This position will be at the forefront of driving a relational service which puts children and families at the heart of everything we do.

The person

As a leader you'll be driven, creative and a passionate advocate of children and young people, and with an appropriate professional qualification and good knowledge of relevant legislation and codes of practices, you'll be ready to make an immediate impact in your new role.

We'll look for significant experience of education management and local authority leadership, and you'll have worked with partner agencies in the delivery of positive strategic objectives.

Dedicated to improving service quality and with the ability to develop projects targeting SEND interventions, you'll be ready to put your superb communication skills to great use as you work to support our schools, families and children.

The benefits
Our working environment promotes diversity and inclusivity, healthy lifestyle choices, wellbeing and balance.

We'll empower you to be the best you can be, with coaching, mentoring and training programmes that meet your professional and personal development needs at every stage of your career with us.

We also offer:

  • Family friendly policies.
  • A range of benefits, including membership of the West Midlands Pension Fund, discounted gym membership and a confidential employee assistance programme.
  • 29 days' annual leave increasing with length of service, plus the option to purchase additional days.

We want the very best and most brilliant to join us, so if that's you don't hesitate to get in touch.

Every appointment has to make a real difference - we're prepared for the journey ahead, as you will be.
