The School of Healthcare Sciences is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and self-motivated Building Liaison Officer to work across the school sites.

The role holder will be responsible for the delivery of a responsive service by supporting aspects of building security and access, estate maintenance and Health and Safety.

The individual will also need to provide a welcoming and interactive manner dealing with students, School and University wide staff and external guests using various communication methods.

Experience of employment in higher education is desirable.

  • This position is fulltime, 35 hours per week and openended.

  • Starting salary: £24,715 per annum (with annual increments up to £28,929 per annum). Please note that it is not expected that we will appoint above grade 4.16.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Duties

  • Oversee the School of Healthcare Sciences' building service, including managing the logistics of the School's splitsite operation (including transfer of equipment, documents etc.); the provision of some manual handling service where appropriate; managing building maintenance requests; overseeing the intraSchool mail service; and ensuring issues relating to building safety are appropriately expedited.
  • Supervise the daytoday operation of the Building Liaison Assistant, including allocating tasks, producing work schedules, monitoring holiday cover arrangements; completing probation, annual appraisal and staff development requirements; and providing training and wellbeing support to staff members where necessary.
  • Support the team to work together to achieve shared objectives.
  • Provide detailed advice and guidance on building processes and procedures to internal and external customers (staff, students or members of the public, contractors), using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action, and contributing to the solving of more complex issues.
  • To be the main point of contact for managing building security across the School's estate, including building/room access, tracking, cutting and auditing keys/access, liaising with the central University regarding staff/student access via swipe card systems, and maintaining the electronic locks database and access permissions within the School.
  • Work with others to make recommendations to improve our ways of working.
  • Establish productive relationships with key individuals (University colleagues and external contacts) to help improve the level of service provided to its customers.
  • Perform a variety of administrative duties to support the team and department achieve its objectives such as coordinate changes to the organisation of the School's estate.
  • To be responsible for operationalising health, safety and environment policies of the School and University, in particular ensuring that corridors/fire doors etc. remain unblocked and facilitate free/emergency access.
