Clinical:

Support registered Sonographers in the provision of essential care to patients by assisting patients whilst in the Ante-natal department according to trust policy and procedures with: Acting as a chaperone whilst undergoing some examinations To assist in the scan rooms, provide reassurance Help to promote and maintain a clean, comfortable and tidy environment in the department, which meets the needs of patients, their relatives/carers and friends Escort and transport patients and their relatives/carers to other wards and departments within the Trust, via wheelchair or walking.

Chaperone patients during intimate procedures as required.

Be aware of the importance of good health and the health education needs of patients as identified within individual care plans.

After completion of the appropriate training prepare and undertake agreed clinical activities (These will vary between wards and departments) such as:

Receive and store products and equipment for scan Use of mechanical aids to assist movement and handling of patients Prepare and stack documents/leaflets and scan paperwork for Sonographers.


Personal Responsibilities Maintain personal standards of hygiene and promote universal precautions to limit cross infection To wear uniform as agreed by North Bristol Trust Participate in training and development programmes as identified by the department manager and contribute to the development of others Refer to the registered Sonographer regarding any situation which is not within your current responsibility Keep up to date with changing practice attend Trust training programmes as required Ensure the Trusts Policies and Procedures are known and followed Ensure courtesy and respect at all times Ensure effective and economical use is made of all supplies and equipment Take responsibility for ensuring stock levels are maintained and clinical areas and equipment are clean and tidy at all times Prepare and use cleaning solutions for equipment in accordance with guidelines Support the sonography team in communicating with patients, face to face or via telephone Ensure information is transmitted correctly and promptly to Sonographers/Midwives and Doctors.

Contribute to the learning environment in the department for staff undergoing training Participate in the induction of new members of staff to impart specific local knowledge of the ward/dept Work effectively as part of the multi-disciplinary team recognising the contribution of all the team member sin meeting patients needs Participate in departmental meetings as required and other relevant duties commensurate with grade as directed to meet the needs of the service Ensure the safe custody of patients property in line with the Trust policy Report any accidents/incidents via the Trust DATIX system and contribute to providing a safe environment for staff and patients.
