Description

Successful applicants will be involved in 3 rd, 4 th and 5 th year medical student teaching and Physician Associate Teaching.


Clinical Teaching Fellows will be attached to specific firms for 3 rd year medicine and surgery and tutor groups in the 4 th and 5 th year, covering medicine, surgery, emergency medicine and intensive care.

Clinical Teaching Fellows will be able to continue a clinical commitment in their potential chosen career specialty, which will be 20% of the role.

We are looking to appoint Clinical Teaching Fellows into a range of medical and surgical specialties.

Undergraduate Education

To contribute to the delivery of clinical teaching of undergraduate medical students attached to New Cross Hospital.


All appointees are expected to assist with the organisation and delivery of year 3, 4, and 5 OCSE's held at the trust.

Physician Associate Students

CTF's will also support Physician Associate Students on their placements.


To be familiar with the Electronic curriculum for Physician Associate students and to be available to facilitate student's self-directed learning.

Education

Appointees will generally have 8 sessions allocated for education. The number of students varies throughout the year.

The teaching fellow will deliver teaching to different groups of 3rd, 4th and 5th year students, helping them to achieve clearly defined learning objectives.

Clinical Teaching Fellows fully support the Year 3 programme offering bedside and small group teaching on a weekly basis.

The 4th year students are attached to various medical and surgical specialties, clinical teaching fellows will also support year 4 students by meeting weekly.

The Year 5 curriculum is predominately delivered by the Undergraduate Teaching Team.

During the weeks there are no students on placement, Clinical Teaching Fellows will use this time to finalise any audit and research projects and spend their time on clinical activities, covering holiday absences, attending relevant operating sessions and out-patient clinics.

SimWard

Leading and participating in SimWard sessions is encouraged.

Certificate / Diploma in Postgraduate Education


The post-holder will be expected to embark on or continue further training in medical education with a view to achieving a Certificate in Postgraduate Medical Education which will be funded by the Faculty of Undergraduate Education.

A Certificate in Medical Education course is run at the Birmingham University Medical School.

These will be opportunities to present at national, and international medical education meetings.

Clinical Experience


In conjunction with colleagues, to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department.


To observe the Trust's agreed policies and procedures, in particular in relation to managing staff, and to follow the Trust's Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions.

These policies and procedures have been drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters.
