Job Plan:

To provide a comprehensive clinical and liaison microbiology service to the following: Clinicians at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

General Practitioners in the Greater Nottinghamshire health community Other users of the Microbiology service in the Greater Nottinghamshire health community/wider network To be involved in the training of Specialty trainees (including educational and clinical supervisor roles where required), Trust Grade doctors, and scientific staff.

To contribute, as required, to the teaching of microbiology to undergraduates within the School of Life Sciences University of Nottingham, and teaching for junior and senior medical colleagues within specialties across the trust.

To take part in Audit and Quality Improvement within the department, supporting other specialties with this as appropriate.

To maintain a programme of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) with the Royal College of Pathologists (or equivalent scheme) and to participate in the annual Consultant appraisal and revalidation processes.

To contribute to the Clinical Governance in the programme to meet the requirements of the clinical service and to maintain UKAS accreditation.

To participate as appropriate in Infection Prevention and Control activities.

This includes the involvement in investigations of outbreaks of infectious disease and liaison with the UK Health Security Agency where appropriate.

To participate in antimicrobial stewardship delivery to the acute trust and community partners.

To liaise with the UK Health Security Agency in the provision of clinical and epidemiological data to support public health provision.

To participate in the development of new microbiological & molecular diagnostic techniques to meet the increasing demands of clinical users.

The designation of lead roles within the department for:

Infection Control doctors for the acute trust and primary care, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Training Programme Director, Laboratory Lead, and Head of Service is by mutual agreement between the Head of Service, Clinical Director of Pathology and the microbiology consultant body, and is reviewed every 3 years or earlier if required.

To provide a microbiology liaison service to named specialties by agreement within the service, for example provision of microbiology input to multi-disciplinary team meetings as appropriate.

Share in the administrative duties associated with the running of the clinical service.
