This is an exciting opportunity to lead a number of teams within the Planning Inspectorate's Operations Directorate.

Job description:


We are looking for an approachable team leader with the skills and experience necessary to inspire, motivate and support individuals and teams.

You will enjoy problem solving and analysing data to ensure performance delivery. You will have experience of an operational delivery environment and working to deliver outcomes against performance targets. You will be supported by friendly and knowledgeable colleagues in the Operations Directorate.


You will lead a number of the case teams, working collaboratively with their managers to help The Inspectorate meet our goals and priorities.

You will ensure flexible and efficient working, managing workloads and performance to the agreed operational performance and quality standards.

You will be an integral part of the Operations Team, championing The Planning Inspectorates core values, helping to build and develop a high-performance culture, and putting our customers at the very heart of our work.

You will be working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, building effective and long-lasting relationships. You will help to support organisational change activities, communicating to your teams and demonstrating the importance of continuous improvement.

You will foster an inclusive working environment where staff feel supported and developed enabling them to fulfil their potential and contribute to the success of the organisation.

Person specification:


Essential Criteria

  • Experience of confidently and proactively managing and / or leading a number of people or teams.
  • Experience of mentoring or developing people.
  • Experience of delivering against exacting performance targets in an operational environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure to exacting timescales.
  • The ability to understand, interpret and make informed decisions in relation to complex legislation and processes.
  • Welldeveloped analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of staff and external stakeholders.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of planning legislation and casework, especially any specialist areas, such as Environmental Planning, Design and Access requirements.
  • Experience of developing and delivering of an operational change project.
