Part time hrs pw

Working pattern is 22.5 hours worked over 3 days

We are looking for an experienced Medical Typist to join this busy, friendly department.

We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic person with a mature, responsible and flexible outlook. Previous experience as a medical typist with audio-typing skills is essential. You will have a caring and courteous manner and enjoy working with and meeting people. You will also be able to work unsupervised and display initiative, whilst being aware of team membership.

You will be responsible for typing clinical and administrative letters and other correspondence.

To provide an efficient, high quality comprehensive administrative support to the

Medical secretary team for Trauma & Orthopaedics at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

To act as a central point of information and communication for the clinical team.

To provide a full secretarial support service to consultants in the absence of the band 4 medical secretary.

To act independently ensuring that daily tasks and ongoing workloads are prioritised and completed in agreed timeframes.

We've also significantly increased the representation of minority ethnic leaders across our clinical and corporate teams

To produce correspondence and reports by the use of audio transcription technology.

To file clinic letters into case notes and ensure that all details are enclosed following clinics.

To provide comprehensive administrative, clerical and audio typing support to Consultants and their teams.


To deal with telephone calls relating to the service, ensuring patient focus is maintained and enquiries are handled in a courteous, tactful and prompt manner and respecting patient confidentiality at all times.

To maintain filing systems that facilitates the effective running of the department.

To liaise with band 4 medical secretaries referring on any tasks or messages dictated tape by the clinician.

To cross cover within the team, including periods of absence and high demand.


To take an active role in initiatives to improve the administrative service provided to managers and clinicians, and the service received by patients and their families.

To open, date stamp and distribute post as requested.


To manage patient records appropriately, ensuring an up-to-date record is maintained of all case notes returned from the wards and clinics, that patient case notes are available for clinics and appointments and are dispatched to other departments or hospitals as necessary.

To file investigation results in appropriate health records and draw relevant Medical

Secretary's attention to all incoming results as necessary.

To identify and escalate issues to the relevant senior as and when the issue arise.


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
To comply with all Trust and departmental procedures.

To participate in appraisal and performance reviews.

To undertake mandatory training as required by the Trust.
