About Us:

Holiferm is a biotechnology company that develops sustainable and eco-friendly processes for manufacturing chemicals.

We are based in the Northwest of England with a research and development laboratory in Manchester, a pilot plant in Daresbury and a commercial plant on the Wirral, Liverpool.

We developed our first process using our patented fermentation with gravity separation technology, which we use to produce sophorolipids, and have already taken this from R&D to commercial scale.

Our commercial plant produces our products at kilotonne scale for our global customers from local, independent companies to multinationals.

We are actively working on other processes to manufacture a range of molecules in order to diversify our portfolio, including rhamnolipids and MELs which will be introduced to the market in 2024.

This will move us closer to our mission of removing the need to use petrochemicals in the production process and allowing our customers to create 100% biobased formulations.

Due to our exciting growth plans, we are looking to recruit a number of Plant Operators to produce these biosurfactants.

Role Responsibilities:

As a Plant Operator with Maintenance Bias, you will be responsible for:

  • Safely, reliably and sustainably running both upstream and downstream processes of the commercial plant.
  • Operating a variety of production equipment including up to 60,000L capacity vessels, valves, and pumps
  • Performing preventative and reactive electrical, instrument and/or mechanical maintenance tasks
  • Performing and monitoring a variety of fermentation and downstream processing reactions
  • Liaising with the QC team for analytical testing to ensure the quality and yield of the product

Role Requirements:

  • Experience operating pilot plant/production scale equipment (pumps, valves, vessels etc), ideally in the biotechnology industry (but this is not essential)
  • Experience and training to carry out electrical, instrument and/or mechanical maintenance tasks
  • The ability to take responsibility for your own projects and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with colleagues at all levels
  • Experience working with microorganisms, aseptic techniques and inoculation techniques would be highly desirable, as would experience with fermentation process development and interpretation of fermentation data

Essential:

  • Enthusiasm and ability to think creatively and develop new technology.
  • Positive team working attitude.
  • Flexibility to work in a fastpaced and quickly changing environment.
  • Able to provide feedback and communicate across the different teams.
  • Experience in organising daily plant operations and/or maintenance tasks.
  • Strong practical skills, able to solve problems quickly and effectively.
  • Proactive in ensuring work is completed accurately and efficiently.

Desirable:

  • Experience in fermentation process development (increasing titer/productivity), preferably with expertise in biosurfactants
  • Experience with analytical techniques for monitoring fermentations
  • Familiar with the operation of pilot/commercial fermentation and downstream separation processes
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in the context of fermentation and downstream processing
  • Experience with different modes of operation; batch, fedbatch, and continuous.
  • Experience in calibrating and maintaining fermentation and analytical equipment, for example, pumps and pH probes.
  • Knowledge and experience in implementing process control systems.
  • Previous experience implementing internal and external QC processes.
