Our client, a well-respected charity who specialise in providing support and advocacy to women and girls from BME communities who have experienced domestic abuse and gender-based violence, is looking for an IRIS Educator to join their team.


The role will include promoting and recruiting local general practices to join into the IRIS programme, building relationships with general practice teams and providing specialist training, advice and ongoing support on understanding, recognising and responding to domestic violence and abuse.


Synopsis of duties:


  • Supporting and providing ongoing training for health professionals in GPs across East London on understanding and responding to domestic violence and abuse
  • Developing strong working relationships with NHS staff, ensuring referral pathways and policies and procedures are in place
  • Encouraging general practice health professionals to be aware of the signs of abuse and for them to respond, record, safety check and refer
  • Manage a small caseload of highrisk victims of domestic violence and advising clients on their housing options, signposting to Solicitors, advising on criminal and civil options (nonmolestation orders, prohibitive steps etc)
  • Key working clients, including carrying out initial assessments, risk assessments (including CAADA DASH RIC assessments in cases of Domestic Violence), devising support plans and safety plans
  • Liaising with external agencies and signposting service users for further support

Essential Requirements:


  • Experience supporting victims of domestic abuse and a sound knowledge of the legislation relating to Domestic Violence
  • Experience of training (internal and/ or external staff and partners) and/ or a background in teaching
  • Strong safeguarding and risk assessments skills and experience
  • A knowledge of health services and/ or experience of working with health professionals would be beneficial.

Up to £34,000.00 per year
