This is a rewarding volunteering opportunity within our Older Adult Mental Health Inpatient Services.

We are looking for friendly, approachable and enthusiastic individuals who are able to give their time. Whether you want to gain experience, improve your job prospects or just want to give some of your time to help others, volunteering could be for you


Aspects of this role include:


  • Help preparing and clearing dining areas by wiping and setting tables/meal trays, help serve/distribute meals
  • Assist staff who are feeding patients by getting fresh food, cutlery, crockery as directed, replenishing drinks
  • Support identified patients ONLY at mealtimes by: Opening packages, cutting up food, replenishing drinks, reporting to staff re patient's intake, encouraging patients to eat
  • To allow identified patients time to express themselves
  • To use different forms resources to engage with identified patients
  • To encourage patients to respond to current issues in local and national newspapers to maintain a sense of belonging
  • To encourage and support identified patients to interact with people from the wider community
  • To encourage participation and give individuals support with the therapeutic programme on the ward
  • To support patients to provide feedback on their experience e.g. FFT
In addition to afree DBS check, the recruitment process for this role will includetwo relevant referencesand ahealth screen.

You will also undertake a training induction as well as on-going training which is essential to the role.

No previous experience is required for this role; a caring approach and good interpersonal skills are far more important.
