ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
To provide timely relevant and accurate financial (statutory and management actuals) information services to the organisation including the following:

  • Manage the period end close process (month, quarter and year) and trial balance review;
  • Produce the statutory accounts in line with the group closure calendar, accurate and usable within the SOP cycle, ensure financials are reported accurately;
  • Ensure tax compliance (Excise and VAT);
  • Acting as a SPOC between BAT UK & Ireland and DBS service lines in solving the matter raised;
  • Control and manage the underlying accounting processes for the business, and ensure robust control environment;

The role functions as Single Point of Contact for Financial Accounting queries both internally and externally and therefore, a close collaboration with the rest of the organisation is crucial for success.

This Corporate Finance role covers responsibilities for 2 countries with 2 active legal entities:

  • British American Tobacco UK Limited ("BATUK") in UK
  • P.J. Carroll & Company Limited ("PJC") in Ireland

Senior Corporate Finance Manager UK&I

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

  • To produce the statutory accounts in line with the group calendar closure, accurate and usable within the SOP cycle (including intercompany recharge and account reconciliation);
  • To prepare and submit the company's monthly/quarterly VAT summary, excise return, destructions working and HRMC survey and liaise with HM Revenue and Customs re: administration, control, payment and reconciliation of Customs and VAT account.
  • To act as a SPOC (Single Point of Contact) between BAT UK & Ireland and DBS service lines in clarifying and solving the matter raised, liaising on management of Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable and General Ledgers for BAT UK&I.
  • To be able to drive the change agenda related to the implementation of Global, Regional, and local projects.
  • To ensure company's numbers in financials are accurately recorded and statutory requirements are met.
  • To liaise with external auditors at interim and full year audit including audit timetable, deliverables, assistance during audit and preparation of various schedules, review of financial statements, management letter.
  • To liaise with other internal departments and teams for completion of UK&I corporate tasks.


The jobholder is expected to be self-sufficient, cope well with time pressure during reporting periods and play a proactive role in managing the finance processes for the company.


ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • 2+ years' experience in a global FMCG or similar dynamic operating environment
  • Preferred previous experience in an accounting role (incl. VAT and Excise reporting and reconciliation, Inventory reconciliation, Intercompany transactions and monthend closing processes)
  • Degree educated with professional accountancy qualification (CA/ACCA/CIMA/CPA) in progress / qualified wouldbe a plus
  • Strong Financial Accounting & analytical skills
  • Good communicator and ability to recognise inefficiencies and make recommendation thereon
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and keep to tight deadlines
  • Insightful, comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty, proactive, collaborative, and consultative
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of relevant finance tools and systems:
  • Excel advanced user (working knowledge of excel is paramount).
  • Strong use of Microsoft suite (Word, Power Point, etc.)
  • SAP super user
  • Excel Advanced user
  • SAP BI/BPC forecasting and reporting suite
  • Power BI

BENEFICIAL

  • Digital capabilities or experience within Business Intelligence and Analytics are considered an advantage
  • A good understanding of other areas, e.g., supply chain and marketing would be an advantage
  • Able to drive projects and process improvements and handle remote stakeholders
