Job Introduction

The starting salary for this post is £29,844 per annum based on working 36 hours per week. The role is offered on a 12-month fixed term basis.


We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting asylum-seeking young people to achieve their full potential as they transition to adulthood.


What we do


The role of Migration Worker provides support to asylum-seeking young people aged 16 to 25 years, who supported by the Local Authority and/or The Children and Social Worker Act helping them to achieve their potential as they make their transition to adulthood.

The Pathway Plan sets out the young person's aspirations regarding education, accommodation, health, social relationships and specific needs.

For asylum-seeking young people living within and out of Surrey, it also addresses the options available to the Home Office assessing their claim to remain in the UK under Asylum laws.


The role


As a Migration Worker you will gather views and feedback to inform the implementation of appropriate projects and methods of group work such as workshops, forums and training for all partners to carry out effective community integration and triple track pathway planning.

You will work directly with young people as they arrive in the UK and throughout their time in care and as Care Leavers.

You will also implement and distribute various tools and resources that will help inform asylum-seeking young people about their rights and entitlements, including the Immigration and Asylum processes.


In this role you will also be responsible for recommending services that the local authority may be required to pay for.

However, you will hold no direct budget responsibilities and training will be provided around finance policy if required.


You will work together with the team manager and the team to make a personal contribution to a collective endeavour - creating the conditions for success and actively contribute to the development and success of the service.


What we're looking for
To considered for shortlisting for this position, your CV and personal statement will need to evidence the following:

  • Minimum relevant NVQ Level 2 qualification or able to evidence knowledge and understanding of working with asylum-seeking young people/care leavers
  • Knowledge of the legislation relevant to asylumseeking young people and care leavers
  • Ability to develop and sustain good working relationships with young people, including those who may be disengaged
