A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a number of research Support Assistants to join the team within the NIHR Clinical Research Network North West Coast (CRN NWC).

We are looking for self-motivated, research interested individuals who want to contribute to research that looks to provide answers to important research questions.

We need an innovative workforce to support research studies that will be opened in non-hospital settings, such as care homes, hospices, schools, local authorities & charitable organisations.

The roles offer exciting opportunities to help shape Health and Social Care research delivery in the CRN NWC.

The key aims of this post are to

  • Build relationships in these settings so that sites consider involvement in research that is important to their populations.
Support the team with delivery of NIHR portfolio studies within social care settings. This will involve providing basic nursing care to research participants. Collecting baseline observations and demographic data and blood and swab samples as required. Some data collection and administrative tasks to help the research study run within ethical guidelines.

The post holder will be accountable & responsible to the Senior Research Nurse who will line manage them.


Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

To assist all aspects of research delivery as delegated by and under the supervision of more senior members of the research delivery team

To assist with the day to day management of research studies with supervision of more senior members of the research team

To assist the research nurses/Research practitioners with the general research administration as required for a research study

To ensure all data is collected and managed accurately.

To develop an understanding of ICH GCP standards and to work within the UK Policy Framework for Health and social care research

To maintain a high standard of organisation in terms of research administration and organisation.

To help raise awareness of research/ promote studies at Network sites

To be an ambassador for the CRN;NWC

To help disseminate information on research studies as directed by study team KEY TASKS

To assist the Research Team in the effective delivery of the research study.

To provide support to the research team as required.

This will involve basic care tasks and observations to ensure participant safety is maintained and findings will be reported back to the senior team member as necessary.

To assist with the organisation of patients visits in accordance with study protocols, including booking of appointments, inputting of data, coding and patient support.


To assist in the collection of and organisation of dispatching research samples, including ordering of dry ice and co-ordination of couriers.

To ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times


To ensure Clinical and research documentation and record keeping is completed accurately and efficiently in accordance with EU Directive (ICH GCP) Guidelines.

To have the computer skills for the handling and management of computerised data.


To attend relevant courses, research network meetings, conferences, and study days in order to remain up to date with all relevant aspects of clinical research.


To develop an understanding of the relevance of research to health care delivery and to be aware of research problems with the speciality.
