Senior Principal Engineer

North East England


In support of a Global engineering company's growing technology capability in metal forming of complex assemblies, sub-assemblies and components, their Newcastle plant requires an experienced Senior Principal Engineer to support their ongoing activity.


Continuing their transition from the manufacturing of traditional metal spun ranges of products to high-specification, high-value aviation, space, medical, energy and defence solutions, innovation and NPD and NPI are core elements to supporting their ongoinggrowth.

Coupled with investment in the plant, this new role will be instrumental in supporting and delivering the challenges of today and tomorrow.


This position is seeking true engineering skills where 'out of the box' thinking and challenging the norm provide real excitement and development opportunity.

The role is to provide first-class engineering and project management expertise centred on productionengineering, technology acquisition, process improvements and design and analysis support.

This is not a high-volume focused manufacturing activity, but specialist and not necessarily restricted to one sector or industry.


Core duties and responsibilities to include:

Provide and lead technical support to the Business Development team for customer visits to plants, and visits to customers, including preparation and presentation of technical data.

Manufacturing process approach and assessment of competitiveness.

Estimate input.

Subcontractor due diligence.

Provide technical support and direction to the operational teams for the following activities:
Manufacturing process development activities at plants.


Capital expenditure due diligence including capability assessments and cost estimates for preparation of SXI capital expenditure requests for the business unit.

Reporting and on technical support activities.

Identify, evaluate, research and present on potential new technology(s) that support priority growth laneways:
Develop project plan, budget, and resource requirements to determine viability of identified technologies.

Lead or provide technical support on approved research and development projects.

Represent the company as an active member of industry, academic and University technology centres, conferences, and sessions.

Participate on acquisition due diligence activities to evaluate the business core competent processes and technologies.


Experience:

A knowledge of core forming capabilities, metal fabrication and metal forming is essential to be successful in this role.


The focus in this role will be working on new products and new developments, this will require interaction with our research team to create concepts and site engineers meet deadlines on projects.

Experience working in new products/new developments wouldbe advantageous.


You will be able to show significant experience in a project, manufacturing, engineering or business development role in metal working or forming industries.

Along with experience and comprehensive knowledge in the core forming disciplines along with demonstratedability in the other metal manufacturing disciplines.

Have a high level of understanding in the use of operational excellence and continuous improvement tools. With working knowledge of quality, inspection and NDE specifications as well as metallurgy.


This role will involve some UK travel to company sites, suppliers and clients, and may involve travel to the US, therefore you must have a passport.


You must be able to engage and collaborate with multiple stakeholders confidently and credibly, with excellent written and verbal skills and a strong analytical/problem solving thought process.

A BSc in Engineering would be desirable.
