About the role:


The Careers and Work Experience Assistant role will provide excellent administrative and customer service to students and industry in order to deliver a quality service for student careers and work experience.


You will work with students, tutors, industry, community organisations and colleagues within the Learner Journey Team based at Buxton & Leek College, to deliver all aspects of the service, making effective use of systems, implementing procedures and promoting the service using a variety of methods.

The role will require frequent interaction with clients, excellent administrative skills and an understanding of careers and work experience.

Requests for part-time hours and flexible working will be considered.


Principal accountabilities:


  • To locate and negotiate work experience placements as part of the Careers and Engagement team for every FE student who requires one as part of their programme.
  • To ensure that all the data in respect of careers and work experience placements for the Buxton and Leek College is held on the central Database.
  • To collect and complete all of the necessary information to support the work experience process including industry and student details for Health and Safety Assessors.
  • To ensure that Health & Safety requirements are constantly updated to comply with University and legal Health & Safety requirements.
  • Agree between the placement provider and student the details of attendance, dress code and work expectations.
  • Undertake and administer DBS for students, as and when required for work placements.
  • To initiate, maintain and build on productive relationships with current and potential placement providers.
  • To assist with projects and tasks in relation to employer and careers events as outlined by the Engagement Manager.
  • To be welcoming and helpful to all students that engage with the Careers and Engagement Team.

Essential Criteria:


Qualifications:


  • GCSE Maths (Grade A-C) and English (Grade A-C) or equivalent

Experience:


  • Working with and following standard procedures and internal/external regulations
  • Working with different computer systems including Microsoft Office packages and bespoke / in house systems

Skills, knowledge & abilities:


  • Ability to communicate clearly with internal and external customers and colleagues, both written and verbal
  • Ability to carry out multiple tasks and prioritise own workload
  • Ability to work to multiple deadlines with competing demands
  • Ability to work with colleagues at all levels to achieve common goals
  • A welcoming, positive cando attitude
  • Ability to adapt positively to change

  • Experience of working directly with students / learners
