Transport for Wales has awarded KeolisAmey a multi-billion-pound contract to run the country's rail network.

This is the biggest ever contract to be awarded in Wales and we will work closely with Transport for wales to deliver a new era for passengers and for Wales, with more services, newer trains, better stations and a more reliable network.

As part of this contract we will be delivering the £738million South Wales Metro, in partnership with the Welsh Government and the Cardiff Capital Region.


The role
Our Environment and Sustainability team provides strategic environmental consultancy services across transport, utilities, defence and local government infrastructure.

The team has a diverse range of skilled people with expertise in ecology, noise, air quality, landscape, arboricultural services, archaeology, carbon modelling, EIA coordination, EMS and auditing, and GIS specialists, servicing the consulting needs within the wider Amey group.


We are looking to grow our capability in several areas following successfully securing a number of very large infrastructures projects.

We view this Environmentalist role as a key opportunity to build, develop and lead our delivery of Environmental Assessments across all the projects in the Amey Consulting portfolio.

This role would involve providing input to DMRB topics such as Population and Human Health, Waste & Materials, Environmental Management & Sustainability and co-ordinating environmental projects ranging from scoping studies to full environmental statements.


In a typical week

  • Provide guidance on best methods and practice to meet technical and project requirements
  • Keep up to date with industry best practice and where, appropriate, brief junior environmental staff
  • Liaise with clients on technical matters
  • Advise on environmental aspects of projects including but not limited to EIAs, ecological studies, energy use, environmental hazards
  • Prepare reports to respond to the EA and Local Authorities regarding the PPG's, scoping reports, planning submissions and permitting for projects
  • Ensure compliance with Health and safety, Environmental and other appropriate regulations
  • Be responsible for environmental staff in respect of: contributing with other professions in the Business Development process in producing information for PQQs and Tenders, timekeeping; technical training requirements; development and resourcing
  • Monitor relevant technical aspects of quality plans
  • Report variances and provide suggestions for corrective actions
  • Provide input into project quality plans

We want to hear from you if

  • Degree in Environmental Science (or other relevant degree) with 3+ years' experience delivering environmental assessment reporting within a consultancy environment;
  • Membership of a professional body or qualifications/experience leading to membership;
  • Experience of working on the assessment of infrastructure projects is preferred;
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment interacting with all disciplines in the environment team as well as design teams, clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage budgets and resourcing ensuring project stages are delivered on time and on budget;
  • Experience and expertise using Microsoft packages; particularly word and excel
  • Good communication and presentation skills;
  • Enthusiastic, energetic and dynamic approach to people and projects
  • Forward thinking and interested in developing smart ways of working with teams to realize client and operational objectives
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a collaborative or joint venture environment is highly desirable.
