Description

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available within the group of Dr Zahid Padamsey at the Institute of Metabolic Science (IMS).

The lab focusses on brain-body interactions, specifically on understanding how diet and metabolism affect the mammalian neocortex.

The lab explores these aims using dietary and genetic manipulations in mice, combined with in vivo two-photon calcium imaging, in vivo oxygen and ATP imaging, as well as in vivo whole-cell patch clamp recordings, in the cortex of awake, behaving mice.

Collectively, these techniques give a wholistic view of how diet impacts function and energy use in the mammalian cortex.

Key responsibilities:

  • Genetic and dietary manipulations in mice to perturb metabolism
  • In vivo two photon calcium and ATP imaging
  • In vivo and ex vivo wholecell patch clamp recordings
  • In vivo laser doppler flowmetry/hemoglobin spectroscopy imaging to assess oxygen use
  • Metabolic phenotyping
  • Big data analysis
Closing date: 23rd March 2023 Interview date: Week beginning 3rd April

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
