Full Time - Fixed Term for 12 Months
Reading Borough Council has a busy events team who deliver a range of civic, ceremonial and community events.


The team run some key events - Children's Festival, Water Fest and Armed Forces Day - as well as running Annual Council which includes Mayor Making and overseeing the Mayor's diary.

We also get involved in supporting Reading Festival, our elections team with the count and Reading Half Marathon.


We are looking for someone to support the team to carry out administration tasks including uploading content to social media, book in suppliers, arrange payment and arrange printing to support the delivery of events as well as attending the events.

This is a key role so our team can focus on the planning and delivery of events. The role is offered as a one-year fixed term contract or secondment opportunity for internal staff. The role is scoped as full time, but we would encourage individuals with flexible working requirements to apply.

The events team will often work weekends to deliver events and we would expect the postholder to support the team.

About the role


You'll help the Council deliver its vision and priorities by supporting the organisation of the annual programme of events in the Borough.

We're a of a small team, planning and delivering a range of civic, ceremonial and community events in the borough.


Main Duties will include:

  • To provide comprehensive and proactive assistance to the Events and Engagement Manager in delivering a programme of event and engagement activity across the Borough.
  • To effectively facilitate and assist with tasks on behalf of the Events and Engagement team.
  • Maintain databases/mailing lists and prepare mail outs, as and when required
  • Assist with distribution of publicity materials, including promotional displays
  • Assist in processing of payments and checking invoices according to Reading Borough Council's financial procedures
  • Assist in the running of the annual programme of events
  • General admin tasks including dealing with mail, filing and photocopying

About you

  • Good general standard of education
  • GCSE grade C, or equivalent, in English and Mathematics
  • IT literate experience of using Windows 10 or equivalent
  • Good level of literacy accurate spelling and grammar
  • Minimal experience in a busy office dealing with events, promotions or similar
  • Knowledge and ability to set up and manage filing and distribution systems
  • Some understanding of basic financial systems
