What is a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service)

The cost of a DBS is the responsibility of the trust.

Occupational Health


This role requires the volunteer to undergo an initial Occupational Health check part of which may include the need to be immunized.

Training

Statutory and Mandatory Training (required every 3 years)

Information Governance Training (required every year)

Covid Vaccine


All Volunteers will be asked to produce evidence for their 3 covid vaccines before they can complete the recruitment process, as required for an NHS setting.

Volunteer Role Summary


Volunteer's role:


  • Report to department manager on arrival (signin)
  • Always introduce yourself to patients and staf
  • Complete surveys in real time with our patient
  • Obtaining and recording of vital informatio
  • Communication is essential when completing this rol
  • Speaking to our patients to receive and record important patient feedbac
  • Addressing immediate adjustments if and when required e.g., the patients water jug to be filled u
  • To be mindful of patients current treatment and emotion
  • All volunteers are asked to ensure that they signin and out of the wards/departments/desks to confirm attendance and to conform to trust dress policy
  • ID badges must be always worn whilst on duty
Our volunteer's workforce provides extra support to our patients, their families, and our staff. Their hard work, dedication and friendliness enhance the patient and family experience here at WWL.

We are developing the Inpatient Surveys which are completed by our patients whilst staying in hospital receiving treatment. We would value our volunteers or new volunteer support to continue enhancing our patient experience at WWL.


All training will be provided before starting the role, current surveys in circulation, what questions we ask and why and how we record the data will be explained during training.

Most of all the assistance available to our patients, as they are real life surveys, means changes can be implemented immediately if required.


Surveys will be completed on Wrightington, Wigan RAEI and Leigh sites volunteers should be able to travel to your chosen site.

We do not expect you to travel to different sites we will allocate you a site which is your preferred site upon commencement on training.

Volunteer Health & Safety

COVID-19 SAFETY GUIDANCE

All volunteers must comply with Government and Trust guidelines to reduce the risk of infection following the coronavirus pandemic. Individual risk assessments will be completed for all volunteers working on Trust premises before voluntary work can take place.

  • In order to safeguard volunteers, staff, patients and visitors, face masks are required to be worn in all areas of the hospital. These will be issued at various entrances to the hospital building.
  • Social distancing of 2 metres should be maintained where possible.
  • Hand sanitisers will be available where you are volunteering and should be used on a regular basis.

Volunteers are not permitted to:


  • Move or lift any heavy equipment or furniture
  • Move or lift patients with the exception of pushing patients in wheelchairs (unless specified in volunteering role)
  • Come into contact with or use dangerous equipment or machinery
  • Come into contact with drugs, poisons and other substances hazardous to health
  • Come into contact with sharps, soiled dressings etc, body fluids or items likely to spread infection
  • Feed any patients or administer fluids without permission and appropriate training
  • Engage in any clinical activity
  • Engage in the personal care eg washing, dressing or assisting in toileting of patients
  • Handle patients money or personal effects
  • Read patient's medical notes or documentation
  • Go home with a patient or go their home unless relevant to their volunteer role eg volunteer driver
