The job role is to work as part of the Pathology IT team to provide pan-pathology laboratory IT and data support and administration to Blood Sciences, Microbiology and Histopathology.

The post holder will work under the supervision of the Pathology IT System Specialists and Pathology IT Manager in a small team supporting the Pathology laboratory staff within the boundaries of their existing skills and knowledge at all times, Giving advice and support to the Pathology laboratories with a range of IT related tasks.


The post holder will support the Pathology IT System Specialists and Pathology IT Manager in maintaining Pathology systems and resolving IT problems.

Sustainability is integral to the Trust achieving the NHS Net Zero target. All staff are therefore actively encouraged and supported to implement new ways of working within their field of expertise.

Give advice and support to the Pathology laboratories with a range of IT related tasks.

To support the periodic production of Pathology key performance indicators, perform data extracts from the laboratory management system (LIMS) and other systems as required, and the production of any subsequent reports

Monitor a range of LIMS interfaces daily to ensure they function correctly. Co-ordinate and assist with annual maintenance visits by the LIMS supplier

Work with Suppliers & Cornwall IT Services (CITS) correcting errors within the LIMS that have impacted on other systems.

Maintain and update Pathology IT databases including updates to patient details and merging of duplicate records.

Assist with validation and change control of the LIMS to comply with ISO

Support Pathology IT System Specialists and Pathology IT Manager with the testing and implementation of new interfaces and software.

Support Pathology IT System Specialists and Pathology IT Manager in making changes to Pathology systems.

Report any LIMS system errors to Pathology IT System Specialists and Pathology IT Manager and CITS/LIMS supplier.

Work closely with CITS and information services to manage the interface of Pathology data and information with other systems

Log all system errors using the QMS.
