Overall responsibilities of the Applications Specialist:

  • Possess and develop encyclopaedic knowledge of The company's processes across all departments.
  • Understand the business processes and workflow relationships between these teams
  • Share knowledge with internal and external development teams, to improve the software used by these teams
  • Identify weaknesses and allow teams to improve procedures throughout the client journey.
  • Knowledge of internal and external data sources and destinations, such as price feeds, data feeds, HMRC reporting, etc.

Third-Party Software Application Specialist:


  • Act as a business analyst between end users and Iress
  • Raise, prioritise, chase, test and manage both the support and change requests with Iress.
  • Act as secondline support i.e. between the levels of IT and Iress. Ensure that the majority of calls relating to 3rd party software can be resolved in house, rather than have to rely on external support.
  • Provide detailed initial analysis of support calls to Iress, including technical documents, screenshots, videos and SQL results.
  • Manage the release cycle, ensuring changes are tested and approved before live implementation. Coordination of releases with both Iress and end users
  • Provide support out of normal office hours as and when required
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to less experienced colleagues
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and user guides relating to Iress software
  • Superuserlevel configuration of Pulse and Symphony system Rules

Technical Skills:

  • Use complex SQLs to mine the data stored within Pulse and Symphony databases, e.g. presenting the information in Excel spreadsheets.
  • Use database skills such as SQL and knowledge of the thirdparty databases to troubleshoot problems and retrieve information
  • Possess detailed technical knowledge of Windows, Office, Oracle, SQL, VBA, scripts, PHP and servers.
  • Use of technical skills (such as SQL, VBA and scripts) to allow others to complete complex process such as running of reviews.
  • Creation of new, and amendments to existing, Crystal Reports for production of customised Pulse and Symphony reports.
  • Liaison with IT staff e.g. regarding PC, Remote Desktop and server set up
The job holder is likely to have a relevant (IT related) degree e.g. Computer Science (CS) or combined CS and Business degree or at least a maths or science degree. They will have knowledge of ITIL (IT management) processes and a high level of numeracy.

They will have generic Investment and Regulatory knowledge, knowledge of the markets in which the firm is active and the data, systems and processes which these involve.

Knowledge of methods to obtain and analyse financial data (e.g. Interactive Data).
