Description

VolkerRail are looking to recruit an OLE Supervisor to join our Major Projects team, working as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade East Alliance.


The mission of the TRU East Alliance is to transform the East of Leeds route allowing people to travel faster, more reliably and in greater comfort between the North's great cities.

Providing passengers with more choice, more seats and better facilities on a safer, cleaner, more environmentally friendly railway.

The TRU East project is broken down into multiple overlapping projects. Project E1 which is currently in build and planned to complete in mid-2024. With the remaining projects E2,3,4 and Shipley planned to complete in Mid-2027.

The project works include full new electrification between Leeds and York and include significant and complex renewals works at Neville Hill and Church Fenton.

The works also include a new depot at Shipley, and line speed enhancement and Journey time improvement works along the route between Leeds and York.

The project hub is located at Gascoigne Wood (LS25 6JE) with travel across multiple sites between Leeds and York situated less than 1 hours travel from either end of the project.


Key accountabilities:


Key duties will include:

  • Supervise Linemen as directed on Overhead Line construction works and other activities as required.
  • Assist the Project Engineer as required in the provision of the Work Package Plan (WPP) which includes the methodology, drawings and technical information for all Overhead Line construction works and other activities as required.
  • Assist as directed in the preparation of safe systems of work for all works making sure that they are in line with Engineering and company standards.
  • Assist as directed in the requests for staff, materials, plant and equipment ensuring that all the supporting departments are consulted within the required timescales and using the correct IT equipment and forms.
  • Liaise with the SSOW Planner to ensure all aspects of the proposed works are planned within specified timescales and can be undertaken in accordance with the protection arrangements granted.
  • Liaise with the Possession Planner to ensure that the proposed works are planned within specified timescales and can be undertaken in accordance with the protection arrangements granted.
  • Provide guidance and support as necessary to Linemen and other site staff to ensure that work undertaken is of the right quality and compliant with the design and timescales provided for delivery.
  • Ensure that all proposed changes are managed in accordance with VolkerRail Group Procedures and Instructions.
  • Ensure that all Linemen are fully briefed and understand each Work Package plan, Methodology and Task brief prior to any works being undertaken.
  • Carry out and record safety briefings for site staff
  • Carry out safety inspections and raise close calls
  • Complete site / shift reports and any quality paperwork associated with the works.

Skills & experience:

You will be self-motivated with a pro-active approach and have experience of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.


An innovative and resourceful problem solver, you will be as comfortable managing sub-contract teams as you are managing your own team.


  • Considerable experience working within OLE construction and isolation works you must be able to demonstrate previous successes gained from significant experience in a similar role.
  • OLEC 1,2,3 and 4 Competencies.
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Experience of using electronic devices to submit shift reports and quality assurance documents
  • Will be familiar with and have experience of Mk3b, Series 1 and Master series equipment.
  • You will be required to work on projects across the UK, so a willingness to travel, lodge away from home and work weekends is essential.
  • Must have full UK driving licence.
