BAM FM are recruiting a Head Janitor to join the Team covering East Renfrewshire Schools.

Working hours are 8.00am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday and you will be expected to work one Saturday in three.


Your mission

  • The management of janitors and the janitorial shift rota under your remit
  • The security of the East Renfrewshire Schools and its contents, including controlling access, keyholding and the operation of fire and burglar alarms
  • Provide monthly report to FM/DFM regarding meter readings, contractors on site, works completed etc
  • Conduct the supervision and the oversee completion of all weekly/monthly inhouse PPM tasks
  • Attend Head Janitors meeting as and when required
  • Maintain and update all BAM FM site PPM logbooks and paperwork
  • Maintain and update all site contractor logbooks when service reports become available
  • Respond to and attending at emergency callouts, including arranging for appropriate action to remedy problem
  • Responding and controlling entry systems and keys
  • Providing access for the ERC Cleaning Staff within Janitors Hours
  • Providing access for Maintenance purposes out with core times as required.
  • Assisting in securing the safety and welfare of pupils whilst in the school's
  • Work within BAM FM's Quality Management System, Health and Safety Management System and Environmental Systems
  • Report any problems detected to the Help Desk and the use of FSIGO handheld system
  • Work within priorities dictated by Helpdesk and Helpdesk Operator
  • Sign for deliveries including receipt and despatch of delivered goods and materials to storage and/or distribution to the appropriate recipient.
  • Transport equipment from area to area, setting out / clearing away in accordance with request
  • Monitor the standard of cleaning carried out by contractors (internal and external) and complete associated documentation.
  • Provide emergency cleaning, including the removal of graffiti form walls and doors, accidental and body spills etc
  • Ensure the site is free from litter
  • Ensure access/egress areas are free from snow and Ice
  • Carry out high level cleaning commensurate with training and experience as requested by Facilities Manager or Deputy Facilities Manager
  • Assist with the maintenance by undertaking initial checks or inspections and the various administrative procedures relating to maintenance activities, energy conservation and antivandalism measures
  • Carry out operation of heating and lighting of premises (including maintenance and operation of plant)
  • Carry out periodic replacement of lights, including the cleaning of light shades and diffusers.
  • Emptying, cleaning and provision of liners for bins in common and external areas.
  • Removal of bulk waste as notified via the Helpdesk
  • Emptying of specialist waste containers.
  • Uplift of general and kitchen waste, including operating compactors.
  • Replenishing of toilet consumables, soap, paper towels etc if required during third party use and other lets as required.
  • Separate waste for recycling.
  • Provide cover to all schools within the ERC Project
  • Carry out overtime on an as requested basis
  • Other duties requested by the Facilities Manager, Deputy Facilities Manager or Helpdesk Operator.

Who are we looking for?

  • Previous experience of working in a school in a similair position.
  • BICS qualification or comparable experience in relevant discipline
  • Good numeracy/literacy skills / GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English
  • IT Literate in Microsoft Office packages
  • Ability to relate well to customers, work colleagues and children
  • Working knowledge of Health, Safety & Welfare Regulations
  • Understanding of COSHH Regulations
  • Awareness of Manual Handling Teamleading skills
