The Education Welfare Service carries out Calderdale's statutory duties in respect of ensuring that children attend school regularly and achieve their academic potential.
The Education Welfare Service has a legal responsibility to monitor school attendance and consider court action against parents whose children do not attend school regularly.
The service undertakes a range of enforcement measures to support this aim.The service also has responsibility for ensuring that children who are educated at home receive a suitable education, that all children who enter and leave Calderdale have a suitable education provision and licences child performances and issues Work Permits for school age children in part-time work.
We have an opportunity for an Education Welfare Officer to join our existing team at an exciting time as we adjust to deliver the new requirements of the Working Together to Improve School Attendance legislation.
Within this role the successful applicant will support the service in delivering its core statutory responsibilities and provide attendance support and guidance to an allocated number of schools within a locality area.
In addition, they will be expected to provide advice and guidance on education related matters to a range of professional and agencies.
You will have experience of working with children, families and schools within an education welfare environment or related field. A committed team worker, you will carry a caseload and work on your own initiative. Time management skills are essential given the variety of settings within this challenging yet rewarding role.
The role will require you to work with a range of professionals and agencies both within the authority and outside to promote the welfare of all children to enable them to develop their potential and enable them to make the best of the opportunities available to them, and in particular those identified as particularly vulnerable.

Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
