Service Care Solutions are looking for a Volunteers Support Officer to work within the Avon & Somerset Police on a 6-month contract.

Job role/description:

To support the Police and Crime Commissioner in holding the force to account in their
provision of an effective and efficient police service through volunteer panels and the Independent Custody Visitor Scheme.

  • Use meeting minutes, feedback from volunteers and data to produce quarterly/annual reports in collaboration with the panel chairs for the Scrutiny Panels and for the Independent Custody Visitors Scheme.
  • Manage/action/respond to the dedicated OPCC Volunteer Inbox to support the volunteers in their daily activity including responding to general enquiries & questions related directly to the Volunteer Recruitment Campaign.
  • Ensure all volunteer expenses received both electronically and in paper form are checked and forwarded for processing.
  • Upload and share files with volunteers using a cloudbased system.
  • Work with the Scrutiny & Assurance Manager to check the Avon & Somerset Custody App used to record visits conducted by Independent Custody Visitors. Ensure any issues in custody that are identified are recorded into a centralised spreadsheet to be addressedfurther.
  • Support the sharing with OPCC colleagues of relevant information and insights received through volunteer work, to inform a joinedup approach to ASP scrutiny and partnership working.
  • Work closely with colleagues to develop and maintain efficient processes. Maintain and operate efficient and effective contact handling and information management systems, ensuring they are updated, and information is stored and disposed of appropriately.
  • Communicate effectively with members of the public and stakeholders. Demonstrate professional and efficient customer service skills in all interactions.

  • Maintain professional awareness and horizon scan for future developments, with a commitment to own personal and professional organisational development.

Skills/Experience required:


  • Previous experience of working in a customer service/volunteer focused role.
  • Previous experience of diary management, agenda setting, taking minutes and setting up virtual and in person meetings.
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of work with competing deadlines. Ability to be flexible to respond to changing priorities.
  • Ability to analyse and present information in a range of formats.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Understanding of confidentiality and information governance.
  • Strong ICT skills and competent to use a range of IT packages including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Proven ability to handle stakeholder interface effectively and professionally in a way that establishes confidence, credibility, and trust.
  • Able to develop and support productive working relationships. Ability support team members and volunteers.
  • Ability to identify risks and make suggestions around how to mitigate and manage them.
  • Successful experience and/or knowledge within a local authority, policing or relevant public or voluntary sector organisation.
