Role Summary
Working directly with senior managers and directors, the role requires this person to lead on ensuring the payroll and related processes are run in the most efficient manner, and that accurate payments are made to colleagues on time, whilst ensuring that all tax law and other associated regulations are complied with at all times.
You will develop close working relationships with colleagues in both the Finance and Human Resource department to promote best practice to achieve accurate and timely payroll.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that all payments to staff are made in an accurate and timely manner, along with timely and accurate payroll information including RTI submission.
- Ensuring that systems are setup and updated to reflect our current employee base, including wages, benefits, sick pay and holiday time in line with contracts.
- Manage the ongoing average pay calculations for colleagues
- Critically review and analyse current payroll and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to bestpractice operations.
- Maintain payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures under the direction of the Financial Accountant.
- Responsible for the accurate input of information into the Sage payroll 50 system.
- Ensure all payroll information and records are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements and support internal and external audits.
- Resolve issues relating to payroll production.
- Refer complex payroll queries to the finance Manager or HR Business Partner as appropriate to ensure a timely resolution for colleagues.
- Assist in the Sage HR system and its interface with The Sage Payroll module.
Academic/Educational Requirements
- Previous experience of running a payroll for a medium sized organisation.
- Minimum of 3 years Payroll experience on computerized systems
- Sage experience is a distinct advantage.
Required Skills/Experience/knowledge:
- Experience of dealing with HMRC issues.
- Excellent IT skills including a high level of competency using HR, payroll and financial systems and Excel.
- Up to date knowledge of PAYE rules, Pension Auto Enrolment and associated payroll rules and regulations.
- Demonstrable understanding of how to design, implement and manage, payroll processes and controls.
- Strong communication skills able to establish strong and professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- High levels of discretion regarding confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Sound professional judgement and in making decisions as required based on the best information available at the time.
- Comfortable working in a smaller business model, where there is a need to be both creative, pragmatic and to sometimes "wear different hats".
- Strong organisational and problemsolving skills with impeccable multitasking abilities.
- Relevant Accounting / Payroll qualification preferred.
