Job summary:

Applications are invited for a Femoral Fragility Fellow within Trauma & Orthopedics. This is a fixed 12 month contract.


Main duties, tasks & skills required:

The job is suitable for a Post MRCS trainee who is looking for further experience in the field of Hip and Periprosthetic Trauma and is looking for a quality training time to gain hands on experience in Femoral Fragility Trauma which is one of the basic Trauma fields.

It also offers research opportunity to pursue a career in Trauma and Orthopaedics. Previous experience in this field ST3 level and above is essential.

Job description:


The Femoral Fragility Service is based at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and is the biggest in UK as it deals with 1250 Fragility fractures every year.

The fellow will be expected to play an important clinical role in the management of Hip and Periprosthetic Fractures. This will involve NOF/Periprosthetic fracture theatre lists, trauma outpatient clinics and pre and post-operative ward work.


The fellow will join the theatre team of Fragility Theatre either with a Consultant JSD(Higher) or on his own with a JSD(Standard/SHO) depending on rota gaps.

The Fellow will also follow up the Fragility patients who need to be reviewed for clinical or research reasons.

The Fellow will also attend the daily Trauma MDT and lead the organisation and running of one monthly Morbidity and Mortality Femoral Fragility Meeting.


Person specification:


Qualifications:


Essential:

Medical Degree from a recognised University

MRCS or equivalent

ATLS or European Trauma Course qualification


Experience:


Essential:

A minimum of 3 years full time post graduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) or equivalent experience or competencies

experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics with acute on-call commitments
