Role Snapshot


As a Learning and Organisational Development (L&OD) Apprentice, you will primarily support the L&OD Team in the delivery of our work to help enable a positive and effective learning and development environment across two Councils.

You'll also have opportunitiesto work with HR colleagues to see and support how L&OD integrates into the wider HR function.

What you'll be doing:


  • Acting as the first line of contact for all basic L&OD queries from a number of stakeholders, mainly internal managers, employees and external suppliers, with occasional contact with members of the public
  • Managing and administering the Council's Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring it is appropriately and regularly updated, with timely production of reports and response to all user requests
  • Assisting the L&OD Team in the coordination of the design, implementation, delivery and evaluation of all learning and development events
  • Actively receiving, responding to and processing all employee training and development requests including training / provider research, administration and course bookings, raising purchase orders, making payments and monitoring / follow up
  • Supporting internal and external training providers with the successful organisation, high quality delivery and evaluation of all training and development interventions
  • Ensure the relevant L&OD and HR databases, records and trackers are up to date, accurate and compliant with legislation

You must have:


  • GCSEs grade 4 (C) or above including Maths and English (or equivalent)
    OR willingness to achieve these alongside the Apprenticeship
  • A basic knowledge of chosen apprenticeship, and an interest and enthusiasm for this area
  • Good communication skills and basic numerical skills
  • IT skills including basic knowledge of use of a range of computer packages eg Microsoft Word/Excel, and willingness to quickly develop IT / digital skills
  • Confident in paying attention to detail whilst working, and able to work to high levels of accuracy
  • Able to demonstrate discretion and confidentiality.
  • An understanding of and willingness to develop excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise own workload to meet deadlines and targets
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
