Job Description:


Assistant Buyer**
37.5 hour week, Monday to Friday

Hybrid Working - either Milton Keynes or Clerkenwell, London, Office base

Job Summary:
Maximizes profitability through effective use of buying systems, data analysis, market knowledge and maintaining data integrity.

Distributes information and provides ad hoc reporting both internally and to the assigned publishers as required and participates and provides input in marketing and promotion efforts.

Addresses or assists with EDI, transportation and systems issues as related to assigned publishers.


Essential Duties:


  • Works with management to buy content from publishers.
  • Works with publishers (imprints and/or distribution lines) to buy inventory to achieve company goals for sales goals, fill rate and inventory turns.
  • Selects products; provides initial forecasts based on sales history of comparable titles, demonstrates knowledge of market trends, and has a thorough understanding of the impact of marketing and media on the title's sales potential; adjusts forecasts and maintains backlist inventory levels; understands specific needs of customers; maximizes sellthrough while maintaining service levels on all new titles.
  • Submits reorders in a timely manner based on sales, demand and title history.
  • Collaborates with Content Manager on management of critical titles.
  • Analyzes title sellthrough and market trends; researches; monitors and reacts to events in market that may affect sales (e.g. Media coverage, Literary Awards, news events).
  • Represents the inventory needs of Ingram's customers to assigned publishers; works with publishers to ensure that Ingram and its customers receive a fair and adequate share of inventory on all titles.
  • Uses Product systems,, to manage inventory levels and fill rate through a combination of forecasting, buying, returns, and DC transfers;
  • Ensures that bibliographic/supplier data is current and accurate.
  • Meets all deadlines associated with accurate item setup and ongoing maintenance.
  • Works with publishers to assure timely arrival of purchase orders. Expedites and confirms receipt by publisher of hot title orders. Tracks shipments and resolves supply chain problems and inefficiencies.
  • Drives greater profitability through effective management of POs to maximize discounts and operational efficiency, and effective management of stock offers and other incentives.
  • Prepares relevant reports and assists in formulating a list of objectives for the business review. Participates in periodic business reviews based on critical analysis and makes recommendations that will drive profitability and assists in following up on the outcomes of those reviews.
  • Analyzes various vendor activity reports for key performance indicators and recommends the activities to ensure enhanced financial performance and profit contribution. Key performance indicators include fill rate, inventory turn, aged inventory, and sellthrough.

Addresses publisher issues to include:
operational, marketing, advertising, finance, and transportation.

  • Manages incoming marketing and publicity information from publishers and ensures timely flow of information between the Product, Marketing, and Sales teams as relevant. Ensures that information on high profile titles is disseminated appropriately.
  • Participates as a positive team player within the Product team and within the Ingram organization and provides support as a product expert and publisher contact.
  • Actively communicates resolution of issues to other Ingram departments.
  • Works with publisher to ensure that they are following stated Ingram business policies.
  • Creates or oversees distribution of publisher reports.
  • Maintains international editions and channel restrictions.
