They are looking for an energetic, creative and enthusiastic person to help them deliver landscape scale change that benefits people as well as nature.

What's the role about?


Our client has been awarded government funding to develop a Landscape Recovery Scheme in south east Dorset centred on Wareham to the west of Poole Harbour.

They, alongside their project partners, will have two years to explore how they can support and fundnature's recovery across over 3,700 hectares of land.

The project is known as Wareham Arc.

They are looking for a Project Officer to support the development phase of this project.

You'll support the Senior Project Manager and work closely with the broader project team including a community engagement officer, finance officer and senior administrator.

You will also work with their project partners and advisors/consultants appointed to support the project.

They need someone who is highly organised and has a good attention to detail.

This role requires a collaborative approach, that combines the ability to adapt to changing priorities and under pressure, while working under your own initiative to achieve resultsand to tight deadlines.


This is an exciting role which represents an important opportunity to make a significant and direct contribution to addressing the nature and climate emergencies as part of the suite of DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) funded LandscapeRecovery projects underway in England.

What they need from you

The Project Officer will support the Senior Project Manager, Programme Board and wider partnership in the following activities:

  • Liaising with key stakeholders to agree, plan and implement programme activities.
  • Advising land managers and other stakeholders around wetland habitat, species recovery and netzero carbon delivery.
  • Working with partners to secure private funding streams to support the project implementation phase.
  • Managing contractors and consultants to deliver project outputs on time, particularly the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Plan.
  • Supporting the Community Engagement Officer as needed e.g. through the development of a citizen science project or development of access opportunities.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge and experience of successful habitat and species recovery projects, especially in a wetland environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including land managers and consultants.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and effectively manage your own time.
  • Ability to proactively identify and solve problems.
  • Experience of working with teams across different parts of an organisation to deliver a project


  • Computer literacy

  • Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, Teams and transferable skills for the use of other online packages to produce reports.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Experience of working with partners to achieve shared outcomes, preferably in a nature conservation environment
  • Experience of producing written materials, project newsletters and similar communications
  • Experience of developing and delivering monitoring and evaluation plans for environmental indicators such as species recovery and carbon accounting
  • Good understanding of the role of naturebased solutions in delivering multiple benefits in river catchments including biodiversity, nutrient neutrality and flood risk benefits.
Additional information

This is a fixed-term contract ending 31st Dec 2024, working full time (37.5 hours per week).

They will consider flexible working arrangements.

The role could be primarily office-based at their Arne, Dorset, a project partner's office or a hybrid working model of office and home working.


They reserve the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.

They are looking to conduct interviews for this position in mid-March.
