The post-holder will be responsible for providing administrative support to academic staff in the Cluster/Departments, working closely with the Research Manager, the Faculty Research & Engagement Team, the Faculty Research Culture Team, as well as support for postgraduate research (MPhil/PhD) students in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities.


The post-holder will assist the Cluster/Department Research Leads and the Research Manager in coordinating the department response to the next Research Excellence Framework and other formal assessments/reports.

They will work with Research Leads and research groups to develop and enhance an excellent departmental research culture, help to promote funding opportunities to staff and PhD students, and work with the relevant officers and offices within King's College and with research funders to secure and manage grants.

The post holder will support the Research Manager and Postgraduate Research Leads administering the research degree programmes. The post holder will also work in close collaboration with the Postgraduate Research students Faculty Team.


The post-holder will have excellent communication and organisational skills, and confidence in managing the implementation of changes in procedures and processes.

They will have the ability to contribute effectively as part of a team, manage their time effectively, and respond positively to changing priorities.

Key responsibilities

  • To track bids and transfers, bids success rate, financial management and research outputs, alerting the Research Manager to risks and opportunities)
  • To work with Principal Investigators to manage local grant finances & activities, supporting them with tracking research objectives & deadlines
  • To work with the Departmental Research Leads to ensure that PURE pages and departmental research webpages are reviewed regularly, maintained and updated by academic staff
  • To provide the administrative support for the Research Excellence Framework and similar activities, tracking outputs, advising on the preparation of impact case studies and setting up processes for the collection and logging of evidence in support of these case studies
  • Support research procedures and processes, including supporting relevant department committees and taking minutes
  • To organise relevant research events, working with academic leads and Faculty Team when relevant, etc. as appropriate.
  • To assist with the research and impact support budget, and associated expenses.
  • To assist with researchrelated risk assessments for events, fieldwork and travel and log details
  • To arrange for recruitment of temporary staff through King's Talent Bank, hiring of research assistants, processing of invoices and purchase orders, and selfemployed contractor assessments.
  • To liaise closely with HR and Finance in the recruitment, selection and financial administration of fixed term research contracts within the Cluster/Department, including visiting research fellows
  • To administer postgraduate research student programmes in the Cluster/Departments, working closely across the Faculty and with the Centre for Doctoral Studies, ensuring the success of induction programmes; supporting student welfare, progression and where necessary acting as a Cluster/Department liaison point in cases of academic misconduct or disciplinary cases
  • Participate in departmental, faculty, campus and collegewide fora and network as appropriate
  • Facilitate an inclusive culture and ethos across the Cluster, sharing good practice and disseminating information within the faculty and the College
  • Support equality of opportunity and equality of treatment to all staff and students
  • Responsible for planning, prioritising and organising own work within an annual cycle and for meeting deadlines governed by the teaching year, including project managing the rolling out of new initiatives
  • Work closely with all other team members to provide cover during peak periods/ projects, including working in and with different research teams across the faculty
  • Uphold and monitor the quality of service to students and staff, assisting the Research Manager and Head of Cluster Administration.
  • Deputise for the Research Manager as appropriate, representing the Cluster/Departments and Faculty at meetings and events
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Research Manager or the Head of Cluster Administration
