This opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Physiotherapy Assistant to join our inpatient spinal unit at the QMC of Nottingham University Hospitals.

This is a part time (30 hours pw) permanent post. The current post holders work regular Saturdays or Sundays. Thorough training and regular supervision will be given. You will be an Integral part of this well led dynamic team.

Main duties of the job

You will provide effective patient-centered care for a wide range of spinal patients.

You will assess and treat patients independently as well as work alongside an established group of physiotherapists ranging from bands 2-8a.


You will treat patients independently in one to one sessions as well as group, working with designated rehab plans designed by the therapists.

You will work alongside more experienced team members to treat more complex cases.

You will converse with patients and use non-verbal communication skills and manual handling techniques to facilitate rehabilitation goals.


You will be expected to maintain your own written records and communicate clearly with therapists and members of the multi-disciplinary team.

There will be admin that needs to be completed as part of the Job.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


The post is that of a physiotherapy therapy support worker providing specific assessments and treatment to patients under the guidance and supervision of a registered therapist.

Some clerical and administration tasks will also be undertaken (eg keeping records, filing or arranging appointments as appropriate).

When working with in-patients, the role will be to provide rehabilitation and interventions to facilitate the safe discharge of patients.


To undertake initial assessments independently or with other members of the team using agreed protocols and guidelines; providing treatment planning and ongoing sessions with the therapists' guidance when appropriate.


To provide simple treatment procedures in both individual and group settings, when judged competent, following the appropriate training directed by a qualified therapist.

To plan, prepare and carry out the appropriate level of rehabilitation and progress in line with treatment plans.

Communicate effectively with patients, carers/relatives and all multi-professional colleagues regarding all aspects of patient care.

Ongoing commitment to own personal development with the identification of personal training needs.

Assist in the induction, training and education of other staff and students.

To work flexibly to meet the needs of Therapy Services across both campuses.
