Sanctuary Personnel, an innovative and committed recruitment agency has a new fixed term 12-month position available for a Social Work Assistant within a charity to work full time based in Pontypridd.

The salary for this permanent Social Work Assistant job is up to £25,817 per annum.


Main duties:


  • Provide high quality, communitybased advice and support for former miners and their dependants, who may be experiencing issues such as ill health, disability, financial, social, or emotional
  • Deliver a service on an individual basis within the clients homes but may also include group work within community venues
  • Actioning referrals to the organisation in an efficient and effective manner
  • Carrying out high quality assessments and providing a range of interventions in response to the assessed needs of the client
  • Providing a range of interventions in response to the assessed needs of the client including welfare benefits advice, advocacy, emotional support and practical advice
  • Gather and analyse information in relation to the client and maintain accurate records and ensuring the database is kept up to date
  • Liaising with and building relationships with a variety of external agencies/partners and promoting the service to other professionals and the clients
  • Utilising basic counselling skills, providing accurate information and written reports for internal and external communication in line with GDPR
  • Undertake any other duties as requested and reasonable to the post

Requirements of this job:


  • Experience of working in a social work/social care environment
  • Knowledge of and experience of providing welfare benefits advice
  • Experience of undertaking assessments, planning and providing interventions, experience of working with older people and/or those with disabilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good IT skills and be proficient with Microsoft packages and used to working with databases
  • Knowledge and experience of former mining communities would be an advantage along with experience of working in the charity sector
  • A social work qualification is not essential but is desirable
  • Ability to travel independently to all required areas by the job's responsibilities
