King's Business School is looking for an enthusiastic and people-focused Programme Officer to support with the delivery of our portfolio of distance learning postgraduate programmes.


The Programme Officer (PO) provides essential support to students and academics for the delivery of online (distance learning) programmes for King's Business School, ensuring a high-quality service is delivered across the student lifecycle.


Working in a fast-paced environment, the role includes supporting the Senior Programmes Officer with the administration for programmes in the virtual learning environment (VLE) and acting as a central point of contact between students, academic staff and other stakeholders.

The PO will provide support with activities such as publishing and quality assuring content, managing assessments, maintaining accurate student data on progress and achievement, supporting assessment boards, and maintaining plans and schedules.


This role sits in the Digital Education team and will be involved with technology-enhanced learning projects and supporting the King's Business School Education Strategy, the Digital Learning Strategy and the King's Education Strategy, as part of King's Vision 2029.


Working with colleagues to plan and coordinate a varied set of activities, the post-holder will have opportunities to further develop their knowledge of regulations and process improvement and will be part of professional networks promoting best practice.


This is currently a hybrid role and post holders will spend part of their working week on campus and part of the week working remotely.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 2 years

Key responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Delivering online programme support that is consistently professional, responsive, effective, and which contributes towards a great student experience.
  • Driving and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement both within your own role and across the School's Professional Services.
  • Developing and strengthening effective stakeholder relationships with academics, professional services, Kings Online and Student Success team.
  • Developing and improving the service through eliciting and responding to service user feedback, identifying and suggesting service improvements and implementing new ways of working as directed.
  • Ensuring that quality assurance requirements and, where required, accreditation requirements are met. To service committees as directed by your line manager. Coordinate module evaluation processes in line with current university best practice.
  • Working flexibly as part of a team, supporting others in times of highvolume activity. Covering staff absence.
  • Working with the wider university community to ensure uptodate and consistent practices are followed when utilising systems (e.g. student records systems and virtual learning environments) to undertake daytoday functions.
  • Taking accountability for the data quality of student records, ensuring records are accurately maintained in accordance with the agreed retention schedules.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in a professional and timely manner, with appropriate confidentiality and sensitivity.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria


  • Prior experience of working in a customer facing environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to draft documents and correspondence to a broad range of audiences
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and the ability to work on new systems
  • Methodical, detail oriented and flexible approach to work, maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Commitment to equality and diversity in the workplace
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders in a professional and assured manner
  • Proactive with the ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Take responsibility for own performance and development, through agreeing clear performance objectives, maintaining up-to-date knowledge and reflecting on own performance.
Desirable criteria


  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience of working in an administrative role and/or within an educational setting
  • Experience of using virtual learning environments (VLE), databases and student records systems (such as SITS)
