We're looking for a Legal Officer with a specialism in Property to join our Legal Services team and contribute to the positive differences we are making to the lives of many.

This job opportunity would suit somebody currently working as or looking to become a Paralegal.


About this Legal Officer (Property) job opportunity:
This role broadly resembles that of a Paralegal in the wider legal sector.

Here's what you'll get up to:

  • You will deal with all Right to Buy conveyancing matters.
  • Whilst working unsupervised, you'll manage a routine conveyancing caseload of both residential and commercial matters. This will include new leases, lease management, purchases, sales, easements and licences.
  • You'll help to look after the archiving and record keeping of land and other transactions.
  • You will be answering property enquiries from both internal and external customers, whilst liaising with the Land Registry.
  • For more complex transactions, you will also provide support to the Principal Lawyer that oversees Property here at Canterbury City Council.

Working pattern:


  • Our Legal Officers (Property) work 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

About you, the ideal Legal Officer for the job:

  • Your knowledge_
  • You will need a practical understanding of Property Law and of the conveyancing process.
  • Your Experience_
  • You should have experience in a legal practice and conveyancing and have sound knowledge of Right to Buy Legislation.
  • You will have previously used case management systems, as well as IT in general.
