Job summary:

We are the Department for International Trade (DIT). Our global network of highly dedicated staff brings together policy, promotion and financial expertise.

We promote British trade across the world and ensure the UK takes advantage of the huge opportunities open to us.

This secures and improves the economic well-being and stability of the UK. It also helps create tens of thousands of jobs every year.

The Project Delivery and Change Directorate (PD&C) sits within DIT Corporate Services.

The Directorate oversees DIT's major change portfolio, ensuring it is aligned and set up to deliver against our strategic priorities, as defined in the Outcome Delivery Plan.

As well as playing a critical assurance role, the Directorate is also responsible for developing the capability of our project delivery and change specialists in DIT, providing advisory support and implementing some of the Department's most complex change programmes.

The Places for Growth Engagement Support Officer is a key and exciting role within DIT's Places for Growth programme (PfG).

PfG is a key contribution to the Government's high-profile Levelling Up agenda, bringing departments closer to the communities and businesses we serve.

DIT is developing a major second site in Darlington alongside trade and investment offices in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast.

The postholder will support the delivery of DIT's PfG contributions across DIT's existing workforce (including London, UK Regions and Overseas staff).

Responsibilities will include coordinating and leading on cross-departmental staff engagement initiatives, engaging at team and senior-leadership level on the PfG programme and how it will impact ways of working across the department, developing strong stakeholder relationships at all levels, working closely with DIT corporate functions to leverage insights from the business to shape the cross-departmental PfG strategy and delivery.

This individual will also have ownership of the PfG mailbox and will be primarily responsible for responding to queries for staff across the department including facilitating relocation requests.

Job description:

  • Raise Places for Growth (PfG) programme awareness across DIT's London, Regional and Overseas workforce, including coordinating and leading on communication and engagement events and providing tailored support and advice (e.g. regarding relocation opportunities).
  • Maintain strong relationships with key PfG programme stakeholders at senior and working level (e.g. Directors, team leaders, line managers) and work closely with DIT corporate functions (HR and Future Ways of Working team), leveraging insights from these relationships to ensure Londonbased teams are wellequipped to work across multiple locations on a permanent basis and to inform wider PfG programme delivery.
  • Encourage Londonbased teams to work closely with our new locations, this may include collaborating across corporate services and senior teams e.g. working with HR to agree policies for reasonable travel expectations for London staff to their teams' second locations, and supporting key DIT meetings (e.g. ExCo, Departmental Board) to be hosted from our new locations on occasion.
  • Maintain a deep and comprehensive understanding of the programme, its progress and key risks and issues, being able to answer FAQs from stakeholders and coordinate responses to challenge.
  • Support the Change Delivery Lead to position DIT as a leading PfG contributor across Government, engaging with Other Government Departments to learn and implement lessons from previous regionalisation initiatives and their current PfG delivery.
  • Work with the New Site Engagement team to ensure that local identities at new sites are reflective of ONE DIT.
  • Contribute to briefing and reporting on DIT's delivery progress as we implement PfG in London.
  • Ownership of the PfG mailbox and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
  • Line management responsibilities for x1 EO.

Hybrid working
The role will be based in London.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.
