Pall Aerospace offer a bespoke Advanced Apprentice pathway into a career as a professional design engineer, with both practical on the job training and formal qualifications.

This is a four-year programme that will see you spend time in both our manufacturing facility in Cornwall and design office in Hampshire.


Basic Training (1 year): Attend block release at SETA Ltd in Southampton, where you will experience all aspects of engineering principles and practices e.g.

Fabrication, Fitting, Turning, Milling, Electrical/Electronics, Computers.

In addition, you will commence a Level 3 Diploma in Engineering (formerly known as a BTEC/ONC qualification) or top-up existing modules as required.

Design Engineering (Years 2 & 3) Your second
- and third-year training is designed to provide you with the expertise, confidence and ability to work within a variety of functions across the Aerospace business. This will be based at Pall Aerospace's Manufacturing facility in Redruth, Cornwall. As well as this opportunity to practice and extend skills acquired during basic training, you shall continue to submit work and be evaluated by SETA as part of your apprenticeship framework. You will also undertake a Higher National Certificate in Mechanical and Production Engineering at the Cornwall College in Camborne on a day release basis.


You will also have opportunity to progress your HNC certificate to an HND / foundation Degree level through Alton College (University of Portsmouth) in Hampshire on a block / day release basis.


You will conclude your apprenticeship as a Design and Draughtsperson and join either the Concurrent Engineering Group based at Redruth or the Design Office based in Portsmouth (Appropriate vacancy dependant).

This vacancy is for One position at the Portsmouth location and One at the Redruth location after the apprenticeship. Please ensure you take this into account when applying.

  • Working with SETA, our training provider, Pall Aerospace has designed a training programme that will give you the essential, practical skills and theory knowledge you will need as well as working towards recognised qualifications.
  • As part of your Advanced Apprenticeship, you will work towards a BTEC in Engineering on block release basis as well as a Level 3 Standard in the workplace. Initially there will be a period of fulltime attendance to SETA to attain training and certification relating to the level 2 standard in Engineering.
  • The Advanced Apprenticeship will culminate in a 3 part 'Independent End Point Assessment', consisting of 10 a professional discussion, 2) a theory test and finally 3) a practical test. All 3 parts must be achieved to successfully complete your apprenticeship.


You will also be expected to achieve (or have previously attained) the Literacy and Numeracy qualifications at level 2 required of the Advanced Apprenticeship.


  • You will also undertake a Higher National Certificate in Mechanical and Production Engineering at the Cornwall College in Camborne, on a day release basis during year 2 and
  • It is important to remember this role will require the individual to attend SETA full time for an initial period to gain general engineering training across several discipline areas.
  • It will also potentially require parttime attendance to SETA thereafter as part of the Advanced Apprenticeship.
  • Furthermore, you will be expected to spend time at both Portsmouth and Cornwall locations. A living allowance is available for the years that you spend at the nonhome location.
