Description
Working within the Waltham Forest Recovery College. The Peer Trainer will have lived experience of mental health issues and/or services.

They will have the ability to inspire, model and inform others, and to draw positively on their own experience to deliver recovery courses and workshops to the Recovery College's students.


The Peer Trainer will work alongside the Recovery College Lead, users of services, carers, volunteers, and staff, to co-design, plan and successfully deliver the workshops and courses for the Waltham Forest Recovery College.

Courses are focused on providing a better understanding of mental health issues, learning, and developing people's life skills and knowledge.


Key Responsibilities:


  • To plan, coproduce, develop and deliver courses and workshops
  • Work alongside people with lived experience and people with professional experience
  • Support users of services to actively engage in the Recovery College
  • To support the promotion of the Recovery College.
  • To support scheduling the Recovery College course timetable
  • To assist WFRC students to identify their strengths, personal interests, and goals
  • To participate in the Recovery College steering group and other relevant meetings
  • Support the recruitment of volunteers and provide support to volunteers.
  • To act as a role model to students to inspire hope, share life experiences and lessons learned as a person in recovery.
  • Support the monitoring of the outcomes and impact of the RC.
  • To support in linking and networking with other services including other peer workers or those with lived experience
  • To engage and involve stakeholders in the college through events and communications.

Probationary Period

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,108 and a maximum payment of £5,177 per annum pro rata).
