About The Service Salary Range:
£54,669 - £58,460**The Education and Lifelong Learning Directorate provides the strategic, professional and operational support to enable the Council to fulfil its responsibilities for early years education, statutory school age education, education in school sixth forms and Post-16 options, as well as a Youth service.

The work of the Directorate is organised into six service areas: Partnerships & Performance, Inclusion Services, Targeted Services, Key Groups, Services to Schools, and School Organisation and Access and Planning

The Youth Service falls within the Partnerships & Performance area of the directorate.


About the job

A new and exciting permanent position is available for a Principal Youth Officer to lead and manage the Council's Youth Service.


Cardiff Youth Service provides high quality youth work in prioritised areas of the city that includes a mixture of open access provision, targeted work, school-based youth mentoring and street-based youth work.

Young people, in the areas served, are at the heart of service development.


You will take the lead in developing a new 5-year strategy for Cardiff Youth Service, ensuring integration with the wide range of youth support services available in the city and the formal education offer delivered by the city's secondary schools and wider education settings.


You will provide strong, encouraging leadership and management for the youth service workforce, set high expectations and performance standards to drive success, and develop and supervise the operational plans required to deliver services.


What We Are Looking For From You


We are seeking an excellent leader who has a passion for Youth Work, and an advanced understanding of the principles, purposes, and values of Youth Work in Wales.

You will need to demonstrate significant experience in the operational management of youth work in school and community settings, including safeguarding, health and safety and financial management.


You will bring a positive, 'can-do' attitude, and a readiness to work in partnership to optimise the resources that the city has to offer to young people.

You will be expected to empower young people to be active citizens, and to build solid relationships with young people and the communities in which they live.
