As the Digital Lab Platform Lead, you will be instrumental in building up a special IT environment to support this business area.

Your work will have a direct impact on the science we do and you have an opportunity to enable our scientists to do science not possible today.


What you'll do:


Early Science Engineering is a global development team which is migrating as close to as we can to a true DevOps model.

The Digital Lab Portfolio is a mixture of outstanding self-developed and Commercial Off the Shelf Software (COTS) solutions.

It's a silo'd environment and you have the challenge and chance to create the software experience to the user seamless.


  • You'll lead a team of engineers and supporting roles to help you articulate, position & sell the Platform strategic vision, the delivery roadmap & releases.
  • You'll collaborate with Scientists and senior Research & Development leaders to understand and estimate requirements and provide tailored, complete solutions that fit their needs
  • The changes you drive need to be using technology that best fits the solution in a way that is operationally stable and sustainable. In our Platforms, if you build it you run it.
  • You'll build and support your teams of engineers and their managers through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback and handson career development
  • Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices and help develop and evangelize

Required Education and Skills:


  • You have 8 years as a Software Developer, Architect, DevOps Engineer, Programmer, or equivalent
  • You have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • You have life sciences experience, particularly within Research & Development Labs
  • You are knowledgeable and passionate about software development and building capabilities that deliver value and a great user experience
  • You know what good looks like for a hardworking team of engineers and know how to get there
  • You are confident in leading Engineers on standard processes on key architectural concepts as needed and are comfortable to have trade off conversations around technical debt
  • You are highly skilled in modern Devops culture / practices with proven experience of migration to Cloud based environments
  • You have experience of delivering within a regulated environment
