The role:


The main purpose of this role is to oversee and enhance the work that supports the analysis and development of Private Markets within the St.

James's Place investment platform.


The role holder will have responsibility for the manager research process and will maintain an approved list of private market managers/strategies suitable for use across the platform, as well as make recommendations to the Investment Committee for manager selection, change decisions and the blending of managers within asset class strategies.


What you'll be doing:


  • Responsible for monitoring and analysing SJP funds with exposure to private equity and private debt to ensure they continue to meet expectations from a quantitative and qualitative perspective.
  • Responsibility for maintaining an approved list of external managers in private markets for use across the SJP investment platform.
  • Represent private equity and debt at senior Investment governance committees, including the Investment Committee to make recommendations and participate in the decision making in relation to private market managers within the SJP investment proposition, as well as raise awareness of any issues that may require further analysis or discussion
  • Responsibility for blending of managers within multimanager funds to ensure they continue to meet fund objectives (e.g. managing overall volatility and factor sensitivity)
  • Responsibility for ensuring stylistic tilts and macroeconomic views are captured within portfolio construction of private market funds as well as feeding into wider asset allocation decisions.
  • Provide strategic input and actively contribute towards the continued evolution and development of the SJP investment platform.
  • Promote understanding of the investment proposition, SJP fund range and portfolios through presentations to the Partnership and attendance at meetings with high net worth clients where additional support is required beyond the Consultancy & Engagement function.
  • Initiate and lead projects across the private markets manager research area, often through increased use of technology, that improve processes and scalability
  • Lead the relationship with existing and prospective fund managers.
  • Build strong relationships, particularly with senior members of SJP's product management, proposition, communications, R&D, legal, operations, regulatory, compliance and investment risk teams to help support smooth implementation of investment change.

Who we're looking for:


  • Very strong technical knowledge of Private markets and the investment processes used by managers.
  • Understanding of how to manage liquidity risk.
  • Capable of making clear investment recommendations and taking personal responsibility and accountability for the performance of private market managers on the SJP investment platform.
  • Ability to manage, influence and prioritise across multiple workstreams to ensure successful and timely outcomes
  • Strong technical knowledge with proactive, flexible and innovative approach to problem solving.
