Basic Salary £34,000-£36,000

Our client a well-respected and reputable professional membership body is currently looking for a Public Affairs Adviser


The Role of Public Affairs Adviser
To develop and manage institute relationships with key political and policy contacts and ensure that the institute's messages and the needs of institute members are communicated to key political stakeholders in an effective and timely manner


Main Responsibilities
Draw up and implement a targeted public affairs strategy that ensures the institute is well positioned to respond to and influence current political developments

Deliver a successful engagement programme for the institute that includes visits to high-profile projects across the UK

Organise political events including parliamentary receptions and roundtables Secure meetings with MPs, civil servants and politicians that helps the promote the political objectives of the institute

Monitor and identify current and future political issues likely to affect the institute and suggest actions that could be taken to address them

Organise the institute's presence at the Party Conferences and our political relationships with the main built environment professional bodies

Develop and maintain a public affairs contact database and outreach programme to facilitate contacts with political stakeholders for the institute

Manage the institute's relationship with our monitoring agency to ensure we are alerted to major political developments

Role model the institute's values

Take on any other work, as directed by your line manager


Person Specification
Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Parliamentary and political processes gained through working in a political or Parliamentary environment

Strong written and spoken communication skills

Good influencing and negotiation skills

A good understanding of policy processes and how bodies like the institute can influence the policy making process will be essential for success in this role

Good experience and knowledge of central and local Government structures

Strong organisational skills are essential given the range of issues the role covers

Ability to manage and prioritise own work and work under direction from other members of the team as appropriate

Experience of policy an advantage
