Hourly Rate:
£14.64 per hour

7.5 hours per week for 26 weeks.


The assignment will be conducted through the University of Cambridge Temporary Employment Service and will be based and managed within the Fitzwilliam Museum.


As the principal museum of the University of Cambridge and the largest cultural venue in the region, The Fitzwilliam Museum acts as a crucial bridge between the University, the City and the rest of the world, and has an international reputation for extraordinary research, world class exhibitions, award-winning public programmes and significant collections spanning many cultures and centuries.

The Hamilton Kerr Institute (HKI) is a sub-department of the museum and is one of the world's leading centres for teaching and research in paintings conservation and heritage science.


The assignment-holder will prepare full catalogue descriptions of one of the most significant manuscripts in the Fitzwilliam Museum collection, the Plowden album.

Made in Lucknow in for an Englishwoman, Sophia Elizabeth Plowden, the album contains 77 songs in Persian, Urdu and Classical Hindi, and high quality illustrations of performers, dancers, singers, courtesans, and other entertainers within the courtly or nawabi society of late eighteenth-century Lucknow.

The assignment holder will describe its contents, assemble bibliographies, research objects, and liaise with external scholars.
