Part Time - 14 hours per week


The Conservation & Collections Management team is looking for a dynamic and dedicated musical instrument technician to join the team in a fixed-term three-year position.


This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in music and collections care aspiring to work with a world renowned musical instrument collection within a vibrant and supportive environment.

The post holder will deliver the tuning and maintenance regime for keyboard musical instruments and provide technical support and access services to the University of Edinburgh's Musical Instrument Collection.

The post holder will work in close collaboration with Heritage Collections colleagues as part of the Conservation & Collections Management team.


Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Experience working in a relevant role and experience in the safe handling and movement of collections in a studio/museum/private practice
  • Understanding of the principals of musical tuning, pitch and temperament
  • Knowledge of collections care, and an understanding of collectionsrelated best practice
  • Ability to organise and deliver work within agreed timescales to a high level of accuracy
  • Flexible approach to changing tasks, work environment and approaches to working practice
