Description

To work as a member of the Emotional Wellbeing Team in providing a Tier 2/Getting Help Mental Health Service to Children and Young People This includes the direct provision of evidence based, outcome focused standards of care to children and families and the delivery of high quality training, consultation and support to other Childrens Service Providers.

The service will be delivered from Community Bases as an integral part of an agreed model of tiered multi-agency model of CAMHS provision.

To work autonomously, assessing individual patient/client needs, initiating investigations, determining a plan of care and initiating appropriate holistic, research based health information and care To act as a resource for all members of the multi-disciplinary team, keeping up to date with research literature and practice guidance, and provide expert advice in relation to the mental health of targeted groups of children and young people.

To provide a targeted community based child and adolescent mental health service to children, young people (aged 0-18) and their families.


To offer support for mild to moderate mental health needs that cannot be met by universal or early intervention services.

The role of the Primary Mental Health Worker includes working in partnership with existing services, including:
Universal Services including; Education, Voluntary, Public and Health sectors. Targeted Services such as Education Psychology, Sexual Health, Family Intervention Team, Adult Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Prevention. Specialist Services for instance Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Service.


Providing individual and group work using brief therapeutic tools and models Offering consultation, advice and signposting that will ensure, where appropriate children, young people and their families are referred to services that will meet identified needs Contributing to development of clear referral pathways that support the emotional health and wellbeing of children young people and their families Developing a systematic approach to prevent children from developing mental health issues.

Developing testing and reviewing innovative education and training concepts, models and practices to support the Emotional Health and Wellbeing of children, young people, staff, parents, carers and the wider community.

Providing education and raising awareness of childrens emotional and mental health issues to key stakeholders Involving children, young people and their families in reviewing current service provision and delivery Identifying children who are at risk of developing mental health issues and in doing so ascertaining the needs of children and young people.
