The role of Head of Legal Guernsey provides legal advice and support primarily to Bank Julius Baer & Co.

Ltd., Guernsey branch (together, the "Company") but also to members of the Julius Baer Group in the UK & Guernsey more generally where appropriate.


YOUR CHALLENGE:


Key Responsibilities
The role holder will act as a trusted legal adviser to members of the Company's management and in doing so their responsibilities include:
and supporting the Company in its choice of mitigation measures, and advising on and preparing legal contractual documentation;
- supporting the Senior Management of the Guernsey Branch on legal risk management, including the impacts of legal/regulatory change and legal risk matters as they arise ensuring good corporate governance;
- advising on and managing the conduct of contentious legal matters, reporting in a timely manner on the progress of and potential liabilities arising out of such matters and appointing and overseeing external counsel and other advisers on such matters;

  • Providing routine MIS Company's management team in addition to functional reporting.

Direct Reports

The role holder reports to the Head of Legal UK from a Legal functional perspective and to the CRO of the Company from a legal entity perspective.


The role holder will also be expected to develop a close working relationship with other key senior managers of the Branch.


Risk & Compliance

The role holder will support the Company effectively in its duty to comply with the relevant laws and regulations and internal policies and procedures.

Member of Committees

The role holder will be a non-voting member of such management committees as the Company's management determine from time to time.


Code of Conduct

In performing their role the role holder should ensure that the pay due regard to the Company's expressed objectives and values, including that Conduct Risk should be at the forefront of decision-making.

This means the Company wishes to ensure that the client is put at the heart of what the Company does by the Company:

- ensuring that all decisions the Company makes delivers demonstrably good client outcomes;
- ensuring that policies and processes are established, maintained and monitored in line with Conduct Risk requirements;
- ensuring that Conduct Risk frameworks and requirements are fully embedded into the business area plans, policies, processes, procedures and practices;
- ensuring that appropriate monitoring, reporting, disclosures and remedial actions are completed to fulfil the organisation's expectations regarding conduct risk outcomes;
- supporting and championing the promotion and embedding of the Company's expressed objectives and values, including through training;
- undertaking risk identification processes; and


Regulatory Responsibilities & Risk Management

  • Ensure that the Guernsey legal and regulatory framework is fully understood and that the highest professional and personal standards in accordance with that framework are adhered to and followed.

YOUR PROFILE:


Professional Qualifications & Education

  • Qualification as a Guernsey advocate is desirable but qualification in other jurisdictions (especially the UK) can be considered if coupled with experience in the Guernsey legal environment
