Contract:
Temporary - up to 6 months


Hourly Rate:

AJ connect is excited to be representing a Public Sector organisation to appoint a Senior Finance Officer on a 6-month interim basis.


In this role you will assist the Finance Director and Finance Manager with a variety of tasks including but not limited to Month-end, Management Accounts, Payroll, and VAT.

You will also support the wider Finance team by assisting junior team members.

Key responsibilities will be:


  • Assist the Director of Finance / Finance Manager in all aspects of financial management and deputise in the Finance Manager's absence
  • Support the Finance Manager with the monitoring and maintenance of the finance procedures
  • Maintain ledgers to ensure that a comprehensive record of all financial transactions is kept
  • Undertake financial monthend procedures including the reconciliation of bank and control accounts
  • Develop and produce monthly budget holder reporting and other financial reports as required
  • Assist with the preparation of the organisations and the Subsidiary's Management Accounts and Financial Statements
  • Maintain weekly and monthly cashflow forecasts to support investment decisions
  • Prepare periodic income and expenditure statements for the Care & Repair Service
  • Assist in devising the update of any systems required for the financial appraisal and control of the organisations work and that of its subsidiaries
  • Ensure staff are paid in accordance with their Terms & Conditions of employment and maintain and control payroll records
  • Ensure that PAYE/NI and pension contributions are paid in accordance with legislation/other requirements
  • Maintain the Group's VAT records and prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns on time
  • Assist with the maintenance and management of statutory reporting including CIS, SHR, FCA, HMRC and ONS returns and records

Experience and Skills required:


  • Newly qualified, or Part-Qualified ACCA, CA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent
  • Financial Systems, Accounts, and Budgets
  • Rent Accounting
  • Payroll wages, salaries, reconciling PAYE
  • VAT and CIS
  • Grants and Loans
  • Insurance
  • Supervision of junior team members.
