Job summary:


This role sits within the Operations Production Engineering and Data Governance Group, which is home to a multi-disciplinary team of specialists in Data Governance, Marine Data Standards, Technical Authoring, Technical Training, Change Delivery and Leaders all of whom are focused on establishing robust and quality methods for delivering ADMIRALTY Products and Data Services to both our Defence and Commercial Customers.


The post holder will be responsible for managing, maintaining and improving the effectiveness of the UKHO data assets through a variety of Data Management activities that are an integral part of our maturing Data Governance framework.


This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who is keen to broaden their technical skills and experience through working with others to develop Data Management tools and processes - whilst also providing leadership and guidance to individuals and teams across the Production Flowline.

There will also be the opportunity to engage with external Working Groups, as well as internal colleagues and stakeholders using Data Management systems.


This role sits in a team that are flexible with where they work but come into the office as required to meet team/business needs.


Job description:

The post holder will be the acknowledged expert user for Data Quality, Metadata, Reference and Master Data and Documents and Content Management and will:

  • Work with users to help them manage data quality and ensure that the right metadata is captured for UKHO data assets.
  • Develop and maintain technical expertise in the key tools used for Data Management processes and understand how they are deployed
  • Support technical aspects of developments within Data Management systems
  • Provide Operational Support for users of Data Management systems
  • Support the Defence Technical Standards Leads

A key aspect of the role is to work with teams and stakeholders to evaluate data management needs and challenges and support the delivery of effective outcomes, so the ability communicate effectively, present information clearly to a range of audiences and lead on collaboration to solve problems will be key to success in the role.


The self-organisation skills to work on a number of tasks of varying complexity and timescales at any time will also be important.


SC - non reserved


This is a Ministry of Defence non-reserved post and although open to UK, British Commonwealth and European Economic Area nationals, successful applicants will require a security clearance (SC) and therefore need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of 12 consecutive months within the last 5 years.
