his is an exciting role within the RCE (Radiation, Chemical & Environmental) department in UKHSA.

The Radiation Metrology Group provides specialised technical services for the regulatory testing of ionising radiation monitoring instruments as well as variousprojects related to the measurement of ionising radiation.

The postholder is required to lead an admin team which is responsible for managing the orders and accounts of all Radiation Metrology customers.

This involves dealing with new and existing customerenquiries for quotes, changes to their order, invoicing and general queries about the service.

This administrative / management role is set in a scientific environment and requires a good understanding of business and customer care.


The Customer Services Supervisor will have line management responsibility for two staff and will also be responsible for supervision of the main office duties, including allocating resources, prioritising work, staff development & training, maintaining documentation,and maintaining the overall efficiency of the office by managing and liaising with other teams within Radiation Metrology, UKHSA Finance, and our customers.

As the Radiation Metrology Customer Services Supervisor your main responsibilities will include:

Managerial

  • Fully supporting all Customer Services Admin Officers in the team.
  • Prioritising workloads and work patterns as necessary to meet requirements.
  • Managing resources to ensure that Customer Services functions properly.
  • Ensuring that working practice instructions and user manuals are updated.
  • Taking responsibility for overseeing the account maintenance of several special customers.
  • Liaising regularly with other Office/Lab staff for effective communication within Radiation Metrology as a whole.
  • Supplying Senior Management with monthly financial income and credit information.

Customer Service

  • Ensuring that the Customer Services team delivers an excellent level of customer service at all times i.e., reliable, prompt, courteous and clearly communicated.
  • Liaising with customers; responding to their queries and complaints in a timely manner and providing guidance to Customer Services Administration Officers on customer care issues as required.
  • Maintaining a professional business approach, and establishing continual lines of communication with existing and potential customers by telephone, correspondence, newsletter etc.

Essential

  • 2 A-Levels + 5 GCSEs, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience of working in a commercial environment to include direct contact with customers.
  • Good understanding of business functions and financial processes.
  • Experience of working in a team.
  • Experience of managing a team, to include staff appraisals and training junior staff.
  • Good understanding of computer record functions and processes.

Desirable

  • General awareness of the hazards and uses of ionising radiation.
  • Understanding of Data Protection legislation.
  • Competent computer skills (e.g., MS Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel and webbased products).
