Description
Deliver effective nursing care to patients/clients admitted to the department under the direction of qualified nursing staff.

Be sensitive and supportive to the needs of bereaved relatives and friends in the event of a patient receiving bad news or in the event of a medical emergency.

Take all reasonable precautions to ensure that you do not endanger yourself or others by act or omission. Assist patients with activities of daily living when required maintaining their privacy and dignity at all times

Measure and record routine observations of weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, oxygen saturations and respiratory rate. Report any abnormalities and concerns to a Registered Nurse

Measure, record and report capillary blood glucose levels of patients when required

Provide pressure area relief and mobilisation of patients

Recognise when patients are in pain and discomfort and report to nurse in charge

Assist with fluid and dietary needs of patients including assistance with feeding when required

Preparation and assisting with clinical procedures

Escort patients who are in a stable condition to other departments in the hospital for tests, investigations, admission and treatments

ECG recording and attaching patients to cardiac monitors if needed

Perform phlebotomy and cannulation as required and process samples according to local and Trust policy

Understand and adhere to all Trust polices, guidelines and procedures in particular, Health and Safety, Fire Safety, Waste Management and Resuscitation policies

Ensure that all equipment is stored correctly and that the clinic and storage areas are kept clean and tidy

Report any breakages or malfunction of equipment to the registered nurse and arrange for repair following Trust policy (decontamination and sending to EBME)

To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as requested
